Review: Eat Well Enjoy Life's Wasabi Edamame Hummus

We're big fans of Eat Well Enjoy Life's "Tuscan White Bean Hummus": hearty, creamy, and with a great taste, it's an excellent alternative to the Sabra hummus varieties we usually eat. Seeking to mix things up, we recently purchased a different "Eat Well" flavor: "Wasabi Edamame Hummus." And, well...our reaction was mixed.

It wasn't that the hummus was too spicy, because it was pretty middle-of-the-road on that front. It just didn't blend it well enough with our crackers, and didn't seem like a viable option for my hubby to use with his famous wrap and sandwich concoctions. Further, it just didn't have the "heft" and hearty feeling the White Bean variety had. My husband described the flavor as "empty."

To be fair, wasabi is a very particular taste. While regular hummus and other flavors seem to go with more different types of crackers, chips, and breads, this flavor is very specific. It would seem to go best with a very thin and wafery type cracker...maybe Blue Diamond Almond Nut-Thins, for example.

So we won't be purchasing this type of hummus again...though by no means will we abandon Eat Well Enjoy life as a brand. A big fan of beans, I have my eyes set on the "Sweet & Spicy Black Bean."
